The Great Gatsby affected my American Dream by how I should go about mine. The biggest symbol in this book is the "Green Light", which symbolizes hope. Gatsby looks at this light at the end of Tom's dock hoping that Daisy will come to him. Throughout this book, Gatsby tries his best to reach his American dream, which is living the rest of his life with Daisy. He even waits for her when she runs over Myrtle and killing her in the process. In this quote Nick says, "He wouldn't consider it. He couldn't possible leave Daisy until he knew what she was going to do. He was clutching at some last hope and I couldn't bear to shake him free. " (Fitzgerald 148) Basically, he will do anything he has to do to reach his American Dream, which is Daisy, no matter if it is good or bad. This inspired my American Dream by telling me to never give up on my American Dream. It is telling me to work hard for mine and to just have faith and hope that it will someday come true.
